Our revised checkout version is here - along with our checkout editor!

We are pleased to introduce our checkout editor - a powerful tool that gives you complete control over your customers' checkout experience with flexibility and user-friendliness. More information about the new checkout version can be found in the attached document.

What's new?

✅ Component-based variant creation 
Create individual checkout variants by simply combining pre-made components:

  • UX/UI design - Control the appearance of your checkout using CSS and Javascript
  • Payment methods - Configure which and how many payment options you want to offer and in which order they should appear
  • Content - Define which text fields are displayed in the checkout and how your customers should be addressed
  • Addresses - Determine which address information is collected for which customer type
  • Global settings - Control access via specific domains and countries

✅ Quick updates through component architecture 
Change it once, apply it everywhere! Update a component, and all checkout variants using this component automatically adopt the changes - saving time and ensuring consistency across all checkout experiences.

✅ Specific checkout variants with unique IDs 
Create different checkout variants for different use cases, each with a unique ID. This allows you to:

  • Link variants to specific offers via the API
  • Provide customized checkouts for different scenarios, such as:
    • Single products vs. subscriptions
    • B2B vs. B2C customers
    • Different markets or campaigns

✅ Preview 
See exactly what your customers will see. In the editor, you'll find a preview of the checkout on the right side so you know exactly which fields are displayed where.

✅ Improved organization 
Keep everything organized with our familiar folder system. Organize your variants and components in a way that makes sense for your business to easily find and manage your checkout configurations.

✅ Improved backend foundation 
We've redesigned the entire checkout backend from the ground up to offer more flexibility. This technical innovation enables us to provide:

  • Overall improved performance and reliability
  • Creation of more diverse checkout flows
  • Easy integration of new, exciting features in the future
  • Accessibility in accordance with the Accessibility Act (BFSG), which takes effect on June 28, 2025

✅ Other important changes

  • Payment methods reorganized - The "Payment Methods" tab under Settings > Finance > Payment Methods will be removed. The selection and sorting of payment methods now takes place directly in the checkout editor in the "Payment Methods" component.
  • Separate design for SSO and checkout - Under Settings > Applications > SSO, the SSO design can now be configured separately from the checkout design.
  • Central management of salutation options - In the merchant company under Settings > Global Settings, you can select which salutation options can be displayed in the Merchant Backend, SSO, Self Service, and Checkout. This setting applies to all clients.

💡 Important migration information 

We will not perform an automatic migration of checkout settings! In the attached PDF, you'll find a guide that explains everything step by step.

FAQ

  • Which components are affected by the update?
    The update includes two main components:

    1. Checkout Editor in the Merchant Backend: A new tool for creating and managing checkout variants
    2. Checkout Code in the Backend: A revised code base for higher process reliability and foundation for future features
  • What happens to my existing checkout variants? 
    All existing checkout variants will no longer be available after the update. You must recreate them in the new Checkout Editor. If you have custom CSS/JavaScript designs stored in the Merchant Backend (for Checkout and SSO), save them temporarily so you can reinsert them after the update.

  • Will my old checkout integration still work?
    Yes, as long as you don't implement the update, the old checkout will continue to function. Please note that we will only support the old checkout until the end of 2025. No new features will be implemented, however we will continue to provide bug fixes. We therefore recommend updating to the new checkout version as soon as possible.

  • Are there changes to the API endpoints?
    Yes, there are two new API endpoints:

  • Do I need to test my integration again?
    Yes, please thoroughly test your integration after the update to ensure all functions are working correctly. The version will remain on STAGE longer to give you the opportunity to test extensively.
