1. Preliminary Remarks
Subscriptions can be canceled in several different ways in the Merchant Backend. In comparison to customers in the Self Service, the supporter has the possibility to cancel the customers' subscriptions outside the defined notice period.
The prerequisites that apply for the end customers in the Self Service are described in the following entry >> Cancellation in Self Service
A cancellation can only be withdrawn under certain circumstances both in the Self Service and the Merchant Backend.
2. Cancellation Options - Time-Based Subscriptions
In which case is a cancellation withdrawal not possible?
If a partial cancellation was triggered by the cancellation. For time-based subscriptions this is the case if the accounting period is longer than the subscription interval (e. g. accounting period is one year, subscription interval is one month).
- Cancel regularly
The subscription is canceled to the next possible date.
Example
The customer wants to cancel a monthly subscriptions with the following conditions:
Accounting Period: 1 year
Subscription Interval: 1 month
Notice Period: 2 days before the end of the subscription interval
Date of Purchase: January 1st, 2024
The subscription can be canceled to the 1st of each month. In the Merchant Backend, the date is shown to which the subscription can be canceled with adherence to the notice period. If the subscription is canceled on March 29th, it ends on April 1st. If it is canceled on March 31st, it ends on May 1st.
- Cancel at Given Date
This option is only available if future subscription intervals are still pending.
The cancellation dates which can be selected are within the notice period.
Example
The customer wants to cancel the monthly subscription with the following conditions:
Accounting Period: 1 year
Subscription Interval: 1 month
Notice Period: 2 days before the end of the subscription interval
Purchase Date: January 1st, 2024
The subscription can be canceled to the 1st of each month. In the Merchant Backend, all future dates are shown to which the subscription can be canceled with adherence to the notice period. In this example those would be: February 1st, March 1st, April 1st, May 1st, etc.
- Complaisance Cancellation
This cancellation option is only available under the following circumstances:
- If the accounting period is longer than the subscription interval.
- If the accounting period is longer than one year.
- If the accounting period and the subscription interval are both longer than one month.
The notice period is not taken into account.
- Cancel Now
The subscription is canceled immediately. The notice period is not taken into account and the cancellation cannot be withdrawn. The customer does not automatically receive a refund.
3. Cancellation Options - Issue-Based Susbcriptions
In which case is a cancellation withdrawal not possible?
If a partial cancellation is triggered, the cancellation cannot be withdrawn. For issue-based subscriptions, payment is processed at the beginning of the accounting period. Cancellation on issue level, therefore, always triggers a partial cancellation.
- Cancel on Issue Level
The cancellation dates available are the publishing dates defined in the delivery list.
The subscription ends as soon as the selected issue has been published. If the customer is already on the delivery list for the next issue or the issue after next, the customer still receives them and must also pay them.
- Cancel at the End of the Billing Period
The subscription is canceled regularly. The accounting period is defined by the issues defined in the product contract.
The subscription ends as soon as the customer has received the last issue within the active accounting period.
- Cancel Now
The subscription is canceled immediately. The invoice is not automatically canceled, meaning the customer does not get any refund. The cancellation cannot be withdrawn.
